Former Roma defender Juan Jesus will continue playing in Italy after his contract with the Giallorossi expired in June.

According to Sky Sport, the Brazilian central defender has reached an agreement to join Napoli and reunite with former Roma boss Luciano Spalletti. The deal will be announced sometime later today.

The 30 year-old will join the Partenopei on a free transfer after spending the previous five seasons in the Italian capital. Roma acquired the player from Inter in July of 2016 for a total of €10 million.

After initially being given a large role in his first three seasons, the Brazilian was essentially “persona non grata” in the previous two seasons under former boss Paulo Fonseca.

The Giallorossi tried desperately over the course of the previous two years to offload the defender and his large wages from their books.

Ultimately, though, the Brazilian refused multiple transfers, preferring to remain in Rome despite having no place in the team.
