Former Roma defender Philippe Mexès spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about his seven years (2004-2011) in the Italian capital where, under the leadership of Luciano Spalletti, he helped Roma win 2 Coppa Italia’s.
When asked about playing for Spalletti and his assistant, Andreazzoli, Mexès replied:
“One of the best times of my career. They worked in great harmony, they saw football in a very similar way, but it was clear that they were also good friends.”
“Together they built around Totti and De Rossi, our champions, a Roma team that really played good football. I improved a lot. Perrotta ran for ten guys.”
“For me Luciano is the number one coach.”
“At Roma we missed out on the scudetto by an inch. We were a beautiful team to watch. Those are fantastic memories.”
