Ex-Roma director Gianluca Petrachi still bitter about exit from capital club

Former Roma director Gianluca Petrachi once again reiterated his resentment toward the previous ownership’s clash of attitudes which caused him to exit the club after less than a year into his tenure.

“If I had been given more time at Roma I would have done a good job because we were on the right track. Of the team that won the Conference League, 7-8 players are ones I signed when I was their sporting director,” he told TribalFootball.com.

“What Roma did last year is very positive. They managed to bring a trophy to Rome after so many years of not winning anything. Winning the Conference League, plus the fact that it was a new competition, is an important step and an important achievement.”

“This year we will have to see if they can confirm the same level of competitiveness as last year. I think for Roma, if they qualify for the Champions League, it will be considered a good result in the end.”

“Smalling? I hope Roma don’t lose him in 2023. It’s very difficult to find players of his level and he is a a great defender and very professional. He hasn’t suffered any injuries lately and I’m very happy that he’s doing very well.”
