Ex-Roma goalkeeper Julio Sergio discusses De Rossi’s coaching progress

Andy Mattioli

Former Roma goalkeeper Julio Sergio spoke of his ex-teammate, Daniele De Rossi, and his progress as the Giallorossi’s head coach.

In an interview with TvPlay, Sergio said of De Rossi’s start to his new life as Roma manager, “He’s shown humility and intelligence in sticking to simple ideas.”

“The team already has players like Lukaku and Dybala to make the difference, so the rest of the team can focus on the simple things, with Svilar showing up and being really good.”

“I expected De Rossi to get off to a good start. He’d always been like a coach on the pitch. He gave a very positive response and started off beautifully to this new chapter in his career.”

“Totti? I didn’t expect him to remain outside of Roma for so long. Francesco is a legend and it doesn’t seem normal to me that he isn’t involved with the club.”

“However, we know that he went through a particular moment and then took his own path after leaving Roma. I would like to see him as an executive, me alongside him and De Rossi as coach.”
