Andy Mattioli

It seemed he was destined to join Spezia just a few days ago, but now former Roma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante is closing in on a deal to join Milan.

According to Sky Sport, the veteran shot-stopper is nearing an agreement to join the Rossoneri as a free agent.

Mirante spent the previous three seasons at Roma, featuring in over 30 games for the club. However, manager Jose Mourinho wasn’t interested in extending the ex-Parma man’s time in the Italian capital.

He will compete for the second choice goalkeeper behind Ciprian Tătărușanu, who is replacing the injured Mike Maignan

The Frenchman is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow morning on his injured wrist, which is expected to keep him sideline up to one month.
