Former Roma goalkeeper Michael Konsel – who played for the club for two seasons in the late 1990s – shared his thoughts on Mile Svilar’s ascent.

In an interview with Radio Romanista, Konsel spoke of Svilar’s unexpected emergence as Roma’s number one option in goal.

“I think it’s very difficult to judge him because he has played very few games so far. How does a second goalkeeper show off? I don’t know this, because I have always been number 1, but this boy has shown personality and courage and these are qualities that can also be seen in the few games in which he has been involved.”

“It is inevitable then that when you become the protagonist of a match like the one against Feyenoord, where you save two decisive penalties, you start to gain confidence because you feel you have done something important for the team, the club and above all the fans.”

“He has the right attitude for a starting goalkeeper, and a good mentality, he seems like a complete goalkeeper to me but I think he can still grow a lot and do even better than this.”
