Former Roma player Alberto Aquilani – currently in charge of Pisa in Serie B – touched upon his ex-teammate, Daniele De Rossi, and his decision to take over from Jose Mourinho mid-season.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Aquilani – who was at Roma from 2002 until 2009, coming through the ranks at the same time as De Rossi – noted the difference in their respective paths as first time head coaches.
“He chose a different path, he wanted to start with the big time players,” said Aquilani. “We talked often, we attended the coaching course together, he had clear ideas from the start.”
“At SPAL it didn’t go as he had hoped, but today he’s proving that his concepts are valid. He is very intelligent and loves this job,” added Aquilani.
