Former Roma midfielder Gigi Di Biagio complimented Mourinho’s work at the club, as well as touched upon Lorenzo Pellegrini’s status as one of the top midfielders in Europe.

“Roma have a good foundation,” he told Corriere dello Sport. “But to be competitive in Italy and Europe they must continue to grow. And Mourinho knows this better than anyone else.”

On Mourinho specifically, Di Biagio commented, “He’s done a good job and created a real team, a real group of players even if it meant making difficult decisions.”

“Now Roma are more compact, they’ve learned to suffer and fight back.”

On Pellegrini, he concluded, “Lorenzo is the best Italian midfielder in my opinion. I laugh if I think someone criticised him and maybe still criticises him to this day.”

“And I think he can be even better, in terms of leadership: he should get angrier on the pitch.”
