Former Torino and Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi was recently asked about his brief experience in the capital in an interview with OCW Sport.
“Roma left me with only good memories,” he said. “I was forced to leave the club too prematurely, in fact the team was basically taken away from me.”
“Everyone knows what happened – I was fired for just cause that was never confirmed, indeed the judgment was contrary.”
“I have great memories of the locker room. I was getting to know the city, which takes a long time to do. I have great memories despite the painful separation on my part, I do not deny anything of what I did for the benefit of the team.”
“I had a big impact on the players. Apart from a totally revolutionary market in that summer window, 15 players left and just as many entered, I saw many guys pass by, but I can say with great pride that many of them still stay in touch with me. It means I left something behind.”
“As for the fans, time will tell if I did well to sign Spinazzola or Pau Lopez, Mkhitaryan, Villar…”
“Think about it. The defense of today’s Roma is totally mine, Mancini, Smalling and Ibanez were all signed by me, except for this season, Veretout was one the best midfielders in Italy.”
