Ex-Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini to leave Bologna

After much speculation, Bologna officially announced today that director Walter Sabatini, who spent five seasons with Roma, would depart the club at the end of the season.

The Rossoblu’s parent company, Free 2 Be Holdings Inc., revealed this afternoon that the 66 year-old’s contract wouldn’t be renewed.

“I’d like to thank Walter for the work he’s done in the past few years and for the valuable ideas he’s contributed to the two Clubs, including during the initial phase of the process of sharing strategies and working methods,” said company president Joey Saputo.

“I got to know a great person on a human, professional and intellectual level. I wish him all the best for the future.”

Sabatini has dealt with health concerns throughout the past year and recently expressed some doubts surrounding his future in football.

The Perugia-born executive spent five years in the Italian capital with the Giallorossi from 2011 until 2016. He joined Bologna in 2019 following brief stints with Inter and Sampdoria.
