One of the top Ukrainian journalists did a deep dive into Artem Dovbyk’s decision to choose Roma over Atletico Madrid.
Dovbyk’s decision to pull out of negotiations with Atleti came as a surprise to everybody and caused Roma to utilize it to their advantage.
As talks between Roma and Girona for Dovbyk continue to unfold, Ihor Tsyhanyk explained in a YouTube video for Football Hub the reasons that led to the failure of the negotiation between Dovbyk and Atletico Madrid.
As reported, the two clubs had reached an agreement for 30 million euros plus bonuses. An agreement had also been reached between the Colchoneros and the attacker but at the last minute the clubs decided to modify the agreement, making it more profitable for them and less for the Ukrainian who in the meantime had not received any call from Atletico Madrid.
This, it is said, happened a few hours before the contract was signed.
Furthermore, Atletico insisted that Dovbyk not train with Girona to avoid the risk of injuries and the club belonging to the City Group area had also communicated this to him but after missing a session he decided to return to training, aware that the situation was changing , despite pressure from the two clubs to push him to sign.
It is not, therefore, a question of money, since the agreement had already been reached, but of an attitude that Dovbyk did not like.
Here, then, Roma intervenes, with a phone call from De Rossi in which he explained to the attacker how he would be central to his system and that he would have identical contractual treatment to that which Atletico Madrid had proposed to him.
It is only now that direct contact arrives from Simeone, who began writing to the attacker when the attacker’s preference had now changed.
Finally, the journalist says, Roma’s offer is also more convenient for Girona than what Atletico had feared, with a higher fixed part than what the Colchoneros were proposing. For some reason, however, adds the journalist, Girona preferred to deal with Atletico Madrid.
