Fazio’s contract automatically renewed until 2022, Roma exit still possible

The contract of Roma central defender Federico Fazio has been automatically renewed until 2022.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that a contract renewal was automatically triggered once the Argentine reached a certain number of appearances during last season for the club.

Fazio’s original deal was set to expire on 30 June 2021, but the new expiration date is in June 2022, which slightly complicates a potential summer exit for the defender.

Cagliari and manager Eusebio Di Francesco are heavily pursuing the ex-Sevilla man, who joined Roma in the summer of 2016, but it’s likely that the Giallorossi would have to assist the Sardinians in paying Fazio’s €5 million annual gross wages.
