Former Roma left back and executive Federico Balzaretti discussed his recent appointment as sporting director of Serie B outfit Vicenza.
The 39 year-old joined the Venetian side earlier this month after spending the past year working for Italian broadcaster DAZN.
Balzaretti spent seven years with the Giallorossi as both a player and executive before leaving in 2019. He primarily served alongside former sporting directors Walter Sabatini and Ramon Monchi, playing a huge part in the club’s youth sector.
“I had the opportunity to learn a lot during my time at Roma with executives such as Ricky Massara,” he said during Social Football Summit 2021.
“I received this very important opportunity from Vicenza a couple weeks ago. I jumped at the chance to accept it since I felt very prepared.”
“Being a good footballer isn’t enough to make you a good director. I had some bad luck during my playing career before I had to retire at the age of 31.”
The former defender has his work cut out for him as Vicenza currently sit 19th in Serie B on 4 points.
