Rumours of a potential return for Gini Wijnaldum to the Eredivisie were promptly shot down by Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.
Along with Wijnaldum, Dutch media had linked Inter defender Stefan De Vrij with a January move to Feyenoord.
Slot, however, addressed these rumours in an interview with AD, denying any interest on the part of the club: “Here at Feyenoord we can never get close to the salaries players still earn at top clubs. That is why the names of de Vrij and Wijnaldum are absolutely unrealistic at the moment.”
“It’s just impossible to get to them. But somehow in the future we have to be able to attract players who have won titles elsewhere in order to become more competitive.”
