FIFA grants Roma additional 15 days to explain Ponce sale

You may remember that Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys sued Roma last month for €2.4 million. They accused the Giallorossi of not having paid the full portion of the resale percentage linked to Ezequiel Ponce’s move to Spartak Moscow last summer.

Corriere dello Sport has reported that FIFA has granted Roma an additional 15 days to explain themselves. Newell’s were to receive 40% of any fee from the future resale of the attacker, but they claim Roma used a strategy to try and skirt paying the entire figure. The claim is that Roma included Andrea Romagnoli’s €2.5 million into a “double transfer” to the Russian side and therefore diluted the overall sales price of Ponce.

If FIFA were to agree with Newell’s, Roma would have to pay €2.4 million by early August.
