FIGC (Italian football federation) attorney Giuseppe Pecoraro has launched an investigation into the anti-Semitic behavior of a small faction of Lazio fans during the match between Lazio and Cagliari, reports Radio 24 football show Tutti Convocati.
During the match, a number of Lazio fans moved from the Curva Nord to the Curva Sud, where Roma fans usually sit, and proceeded to paste anti-Semitic stickers and flyers throughout the Curva. Several stickers and flyers picturing Holocaust victim Anne Frank in a Roma shirt were spread throughout the Curva and placed on seats along with other anti-Semitic flyers.
Lazio spokesperson Arturo Diaconale commented to Ansa regarding the situation, in part:
“Lazio has always condemned all forms of racism. We don’t have anything else to add, the club is in contact with investigators and condemns any form of racism.”
To help mitigate the damage, Lazio president Claudio Lotito, along with a delegation representing the club, will present a bouquet of flowers to the Synagogue of Rome tomorrow.
