Fiorentina win 1-0 over Verona, temporarily leapfrog Roma

A late goal from Lucas Beltran earned Fiorentina narrow 1-0 home victory over Hellas Verona this afternoon, temporarily putting them ahead of Roma in the Serie A table.

With the Giallorossi yet to play this round, La Viola equaled Napoli with 27 points after pulling-off a stunning home escape today against the Veneto-based side.

The visitors had numerous scoring opportunities, the first coming just moments into the game when goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano conceded a penalty when he brought Michael Folorunsho down in his area. However, Verona couldn’t capitalise and Terracciano saved Milan Duric’s attempt.

Despite the miss, Marco Baroni’s men had several chances to find the back of the net through Cyril Ngonge, a header from Folorunsho’s header, and Tomas Suslov’s free-kick.

La Viola ultimately made the guests pay for their wastefulness in the 78th minute. Argentinian attacker Lucas Beltrán collected and delivered a pin-point shot into the top left corner of Verona’s goal—earning his side a victory and keeping them in the mix for a top four place.
