Following the expiration of his two-year loan deal at Roma, striker Borja Mayoral is ready for a new lease on life at Real Madrid.

The Spaniard returned to Los Blancos after the Giallorossi rejected the opportunity to sign him permanently for a fee of €20 million. After setting career highs in his first season at Roma, Mayoral wasn’t able to replicate his success following the arrival of manager Jose Mourinho.

The 25 year-old spent the first half of the 2021/22 campaign on the bench before opting to leave the club in January in order to join Getafe on loan.

Despite the lack of production last season, Spanish outlet AS reports Mayoral is the favorite to serve as the primary backup to Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly a huge admirer of Mayoral and followed him closely during his first year in the Italian capital when he registered 17 goals and 7 assists in all competitions. He’s also been impressed by the maturity the striker displayed during his two-year stint away from the club.

As a result, Ancelotti feels ready to hand him an important role within his team.
