Roma boss Paulo Fonseca appeared on Sky Sport and Roma TV immediately following his side’s 6-1 drubbing of Spal in Ferrara this evening. Here’s what he had to say following the victory:
It’s been a week full of rumors. What did you think of Zaniolo?
The players who came on such as Zaniolo, Villar, Çetin and Kluivert were all important, they worked for the team. We have many tired players, whoever comes on must do so with the right attitude.
Zaniolo and Pellegrini won’t be touched?
We don’t want to sell Zaniolo or Pellegrini. They are important for the future of Roma.
This game could have been a trap, but Roma remained concentrated. Are you satisfied with the attitude?
I am satisfied. This type of game could have been dangerous if we didn’t have the right attitude, the other team had no pressure, but we were ambitious and played with the right attitude. Right now, we have many tired players and we had the chance to help manage their fatigue today, which was important.
Which was most beautiful: Smalling’s return, Zaniolo’s goal, Bruno Peres’ brace, or Kolarov as a central defender?
All of them were important. Smalling and Zaniolo came back well, Kolarov played good again, and Bruno Peres is growing. These are all important aspects for the team. Let’s see how they are for the next game, but I don’t want to change much at the moment.
Pau Lopez seemed nervous, how do you explain his performance?
I must say that Pau Lopez was sick, he was vomiting all day. I spoke to him before the match and he said he wanted to play — but it was a very difficult day for him, he was very sick.
