Roma manager Paulo Fonseca spoke today at a pre-match press conference as his side prepares to face Sassuolo tomorrow.
The Giallorossi will host the Neroverdi in the Italian capital but will be forced to play without a number of first choice players — including Chris Smalling and Jordan Veretout.
”Chris and Jordan aren’t ready for this match,” began the Portuguese tactician.
”Smalling is getting better, we’ll see how he is next week. He’ll be back soon. As for Jordan, I’ve decided not to risk him for tomorrow.”
”We don’t have many options in midfield so two of Pellegrini, Diawara, and Villar will play tomorrow. In defence, Fazio and Kumbulla have returned but they’ve been out for so long that they’re not in the best condition. We’ll see tomorrow if one of them plays.”
”In goal, I haven’t decided who will play beyond tomorrow. I’m taking things one game at a time — there’s still a lot of football to be played this season.”
Finally, Fonseca was asked about the Giallorossi’s opponent tomorrow evening — who have been arguably the surprise of the season so far in Italy.
”Sassuolo are a very attacking side. They deserve to be where they are in the table, they are playing very well.”
”There’s 8-9 very strong teams in Serie A this season: it’s been an incredibly balanced campaign.”
