Fonseca bids farewell to Shakhtar: “I will always remain a supporter”.

Paulo Fonseca took to his official Instagram account to salute Shakhtar Donetsk and bid farewell to the Ukrainian side after he was formerly introduced as the new manager of AS Roma late this morning. These are his words:

“I remember the day when I flew to Kiev to sign the contract with Shakhtar. I had a crazy level of motivation, desire to win, and excitement of the unknown: a new country, new people. It’s been three years but today I leave”.

”Ukraine has given me a lot — we won trophies here and I had a unique experience, but the main thing I’ve received are the people. The people who believed in me and supported me”.

”I’m grateful to the president for his wisdom and support with everything. I’m grateful to my players…I’m grateful to the supporters, you guys are our strength! I’m grateful to everyone who stands behind the crest of Shakhtar: the directors at the club, the cooks, the doctors, the physios, the kit-men. I say thank you to all of you! We were a great team and I’ll never forget you”.

“I’m proud of my time at the club and my only regret is that we couldn’t do so at the Donbass Arena. The heart of Shakhtar is in Donetsk and I’m sorry that’s not where we played”

“As I leave, my wish is that Shakhtar is able to ‘come home’. I wish for the club to become stronger and continue to win. I’m no longer the manager, but I am still a huge supporter. I will always support the black and orange for every match. I’m taking on a new challenge but know that Ukraine will always be in my heart. I spent three happy years here – my son was even born here. I don’t say goodbye, I say see you later. With love, Paulo Fonseca”.
