Roma boss Paulo Fonseca previewed tomorrow’s match against Benevento and admitted that it’s an emergency situation in defence.
The Giallorossi will be without central defenders Chris Smalling, Marash Kumbulla, Roger Ibañez as well as midfielder Bryan Cristante.
”Everything is on the table,” revealed Fonseca. “I’ve considered every possible solution, we’ll see tomorrow what I decide.”
”Cristante won’t be ready, Smalling and Kumbulla are improving, especially the latter. We’ll see next week how they are. Spinazzola could potentially play at the back.”
”Reynolds? He’s back in the US sorting out a paperwork issue. We need to be patient with him, he hasn’t played in a few months.”
In attack, Fonseca wasn’t willing to divulge who would start tomorrow between Edin Dzeko or Borja Mayoral. However, he was quick to praise goalkeeper Pau Lopez after the Spaniard reclaimed his status as first choice since the start of 2021.
”Savorani and I are constantly evaluating the goalkeeper role. It’s important for us to have continuity and Pau is playing really right now. However, there’s no hierarchy and Mirante is ready, too.”
As for Benevento, the Portuguese technician was weary of the threat that Pippo Inzaghi’s side present.
”They’re a strong team,” he said.
”We’ve got to be focused and have a strong performance, especially defensively.”
