Roma manager Paulo Fonseca spoke to Roma TV after the Giallorossi’s victory on penalties against Real Madrid. These are his words:
“Our tempo in the first half was good and we created some good chances. Perhaps we didn’t make the most of them – but the result wasn’t what mattered tonight. What mattered was demonstrating that we can compete against a side like Real.”
Fonseca in the mixed zone following Roma’s victory over Real Madrid:
At what point is your Roma?
Certainly things still have to improve but I am very optimistic, I’m happy with today’s performance – it was a match in which we created a lot in the first half. I liked the courage we showed against Real Madrid to play our game.
Dzeko was good tonight. Do you hope to keep him?
Dzeko has been this way from the first moment I arrived. He always shows great commitment and dedication. For the moment, he is part of Roma’s roster and we are counting on him. Until something different happens, for me, he remains a Roma player.
What characteristics must the next Roma central defender have?
Definitely a player with well-defined characteristics. I play with a compact team that tries to keep the ball away from the opponent. He must be an experienced player and also can’t be slow.
