Roma boss Paulo Fonseca appeared on Ukrainian television program Great Football and talked about his adventure with the Giallorossi, whom he joined last summer after replacing caretaker Claudio Ranieri.
Would you like to face Shakhtar in Europe?
No, I wouldn’t want to. Only in the final (laughs). I’d like to see my former players, club directors and employees. If it were in the final, I would be happy. It would be great.
What is the situation of Mkhitaryan?
I have said it before and I‘ll confirm it: I want Mkhitaryan to stay. He also wants to stay. However, it’s clear that everything is now on hold and we will have to talk to Arsenal. I want to continue working with him. He is a great player and a great man.
Are you interested in any of Shakhtar’s footballers?
We’ll see what happens. We don’t need a large number of players because we can rely on the ones we currently have in the squad. Though, we may be interested in some of their players, but dealing with them is always extremely difficult. Clubs want to pay less for new purchases. I can say that I would choose one or two of their players for Roma.
What about the resumption of the season?
We hope that on 18 May we will be able to start training as a group. No one is sure right now when the season will resume.
