Roma manager Paulo Fonseca lauded his team’s performance following the Giallorossi’s 2-0 victory over Romanian side Cluj in the Europa League this evening.
The Portuguese coach praised his player’s character after many of them were forced to play out of position due to Roma’s emergency situation in defence.
“The guys showed great character and personality tonight. Many of them played in different roles from their own but they made a sacrifice for the team, I’m very satisfied,” Fonseca said to Sky Sport.
”I joked with Spinazzola, Calafiori and Veretout after the match that maybe we should play them in different positions more often. Everyone had a good performance today.”
“However, today was still a sad day because of Maradona. I grew up watching him — he was a huge idol for all of us.”
