Roma boss Paulo Fonseca held his pre-match press conference today before the Giallorossi face Bologna tomorrow in their first away match of the season.
How is the team physically after the Europa League?
The team is fine, they’re motivated. We have been able to use some turnover for the match, so those who went unused will play in this one.
It’s the first away match. What traps does this match present?
It is an excellent test to measure our abilities. Bologna is a strong side, they’re unbeaten and highly motivated. They have good players who reflect the character of the manager. It’s a complex match but we are ready for this kind of game.
In your system, is it better to have two mediani or a regista?
The Europa League match had different characteristics than the league, so we played more physically. In the league, I prefer to play with two mediani: tomorrow Cristante and Veretout will play. The use of players depends on the moment and the opponent’s system of play.
Is Mkhitaryan in a position to be decisive and play more?
He is very well physically. He arrived in excellent physical condition and even played with Arsenal. With Sassuolo, it was his first game, we had few opportunities to train with him even though we had a good match. His margin for growth is still large.
How’s Smalling?
After the Europa League, he resumed training but is not yet at his best, which is why I opted to have him do personalised work so he can be 100% for the next match.
Will Fazio and Kolarov rest?
We can’t save all the players, we’ll see tomorrow.
Is Spinazzola an alternative on the right?
Yes, I used him there, but he’s also an alternative for the left — we have to deal with Zappacosta’s injury.
