Former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco was interviewed by Sky Sport today and talked about his former club.
The former Sassuolo gaffer joined the club in the summer of 2017 and managed to reach the Champions League semifinals with the Giallorossi. However, less than one year later — he found himself sacked as he was unable to replicate the success from the previous campaign.
“We transmitted joy that cannot be explained,” he said as he discussed the two-legged tie against Barcelona, whom the Giallorossi eliminated from the Champions League in 2018.
”I was able to convey my ideas to the players – which was how that match came about. Unfortunately, this wasn’t something I was able to do at Sampdoria. The memories I have from that season (with Roma) are beautiful. It’s a shame the way the semifinal (against Liverpool) went: we deserved more”.
“The midfield of Strootman-Nainggolan-De Rossi midfield was a great midfield, with great technical and mental qualities. I was regretful of having agreed to sell Nainggolan and Strootman. From an emotional standpoint, especially in training, they were important”.
“They helped convey to the others what I was asking of the team. This was something we were lacking in 2018/2019, they were missed”.
