Ex-Roma and current Pescara manager Zdenek Zeman is recovering in hospital following a heart operation this morning at La Clinica Pierangeli in Pescara.
The 76 year-old, who coached the Giallorossi over two stints, fell ill in December before doctors discovered abnormalities in his heart. As a result, he underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery today along with a carotid angioplasty and stenting to help to restore blood flow to the brain.
The operation was a complete success but “il Boemo” will need to rest for the next 4-6 months before returning to football—effectively ending his season with the Serie C side.
His top assistant, Giovanni Bucaro, revealed the procedure was originally scheduled to take place after the season in June. However, doctors insisted it be done immediately following a series of follow-up tests.
