Former Serbian national team boss Radovan Ćurčić weighed in on Roma’s acquisition of midfielder Nemanja Matić.

The veteran was unveiled by the Giallorossi earlier today as their first acquisition of the summer following his departure from Manchester United. Ćurčić, who coached Matić for two years, believes it’s a perfect move for everyone involved.

“I think (Matić) joining Roma is a superb choice,” he told Teleradiostereo.

“The way the Giallorossi play is perfect for him, he’s what they were missing. Mourinho and Serie A can bring out the best in Matić and I expect him to play a crucial role.”

Adding, “He’s got the sort of personality that every manager likes to have within their team. He’s willing to shoulder a lot of the responsibility.”

“He’s very important in maintaining balance and he’s an ideal fit if you’re playing a bit defensive. Though, he’s also great at organising things, knowing when to speed up the play or keep possession.”

“His height and physical characteristics are another bonus and can help disrupt the opponent.”
