Francesco Totti: “Roma fans were the most important thing in my career.”

Roma legend Francesco Totti spoke about the feeling of having to step down from his beloved club in 2017.

The former club captain was asked to reflect on the decision to retire and the difficulty in parting ways with Roma supporters.

In an interview with Sky Sport, Totti recalled, “You are never ready for that day to arrive, but there is a beginning and an end. Looking back at certain images, I’d like to put my cleats back on and get back on the field, with strength and will.”

“But everything I’ve done for Roma and the fans will remain forever. Seeing certain images, the faces of people, children, adults you’ve lived with for 20 years, it’s as if you’ve seen them grow up. For me the fans were the most important thing in my career, they pushed me, they helped me, they supported me, they made me feel different from the others. Luckily I had them by my side until the very end.”
