Roma have put talks with Zaniolo’s entourage for the player’s long-awaited renewal on hold until the New Year, informs Corriere dello Sport.
According to the Italian newspaper, the two sides have not met since their early discussions in September and for now the club are focused on other matters. Zaniolo’s renewal is not considered a priority for the time being.
The Friedkins have also had a say in the matter: Roma’s owners wish to see Zaniolo’s performances improve in the second half of the season before agreeing to make him one of the club’s highest earners.
So far, the Roma attacker has struggled to make an impact on Mourinho’s team and his offensive woes have influenced his overall performances on the pitch.
The club and the player’s agent remain in contact, but no further discussions are expected to take place before the end of 2022.
