During yesterday’s press conference at the Fulvio Bernardini sports center in Trigoria, sporting director Tony D’Amico spoke about the Koné situation: “There was never an official offer for him. The reconstruction of Gasperini’s threat to resign is fanciful.”
Yet, different signals seem to be coming from France. There was never an official offer for Manu Koné, but Roma and Chelsea reportedly reached a verbal agreement for the French midfielder’s transfer.
This is according to FootMercato, which claims the deal was managed directly by the owners of the two clubs.
According to the French portal, however, contacts between Roma and Chelsea have led to a preliminary agreement for the player’s transfer. The deal apparently didn’t materialize primarily due to lack of time, given the proximity of the transfer window.
Gasperini’s veto also reportedly blocked the midfielder’s departure. The coach reportedly considered Koné an important asset to Roma’s technical project and opposed his transfer, despite Chelsea’s interest and the verbal agreement reached between the owners.
