Sources from Germany suggest Roma are not the only club in the run for big-time free agent Mats Hummels.

The veteran defender left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season and is now free to sign with any club on the market.

Above all teams, Roma have shown the most interest in Hummels.

However, the Giallorossi’s path to the ex-Bayern Munich man will not be without its obstacles.

According to German news portal Kicker, Bundesliga Champions Bayer Leverkusen have also come forward for Hummels in recent days.

The player is keen on exploring options outside of Germany but would not protest against extending his stay in the country’s top flight.
