Portuguese journalist Eládio Paramés, who writes for Record, weighed in on the possibility of his friend and current Roma manager Jose Mourinho becoming the next head coach of Portugal’s national team.
The Special One has been rumored to be the top choice to takeover and replace Fernando Santos.
“I don’t know at all if, in fact, Mourinho is their first choice for the Portuguese FA,” Paramés wrote.
“But it doesn’t hurt to admit that yes, that he will in fact be the preferred man to replace Fernando Santos.”
“I also don’t know if there has been or will be any contact between Fernando Gomes and the current Roma coach, but I also don’t mind admitting that this could be possible, taking into account the good relations between the two.”
Mourinho still has eighteen months remaining on his deal with the Giallorossi, creating a major hurdle for the FPF to overcome in reaching a potential agreement.
