Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini spoke today to Radio Anch’io lo Sport about the last few weeks, which saw him heavily linked with Roma before signing a contract renewal with Atalanta. These are his words:
“I decided to stay in Bergamo because of what the city and the club represents. It would have been a form of small betrayal, even though in our profession it would’ve been justifiable. Roma has the potential to be a huge temptation, but I couldn’t switch because of all we’re doing here. Was I very close to Roma? I would say no, I always kept my distance and waited until the end of the season results. There is mutual esteem, but there was never a real attempt to go to Roma. But I believe that Roma will be able to create a very strong team”.
