Felix Afena-Gyan has had a surprising past few weeks: from making his senior debut against Cagliari to receiving his first call-up with Ghana’s national team.
Various rumors however reported of Roma opposing the national team call-up because of the player’s rapid development and Mourinho wanting to work with him during the international break.
Henry Asante Twum – spokesperson for Ghana’s Football Association – addressed the rumors to Ghana Soccernet, confirming the national team invitation for the 18-year-old Roma player:
“When we decide to call a player, we send an official communication to the clubs, and if the player is unable to honor the invitation due to injury or other concerns, the club will write to us with the reasons why the player may not be released.”
“As far as I’m concerned, Roma hasn’t written us about any concerns. So we expect Afena-Gyan to join us. “
“Roma have not sent any information relating to a knee injury or anything like that,” he added.
“I am confident to say that he is one of the players we expect and hopefully he should be here by the end of the day. However, if there is anything the club should communicate to us, I am sure they will do so appropriately.”
