Former Torino and Italy boss Gian Piero Ventura was asked to comment on Belotti’s departure from the Granata in free agency in light of the attacker’s rumored move to Roma. The technician worked with the Italian striker between 2015 and 2016 and was responsible for signing him from Palermo.

“When the time comes and player feels the need to change teams, you have to let him go,” Ventura told Tuttomercatoweb.

“No one – myself included – could have imagined that he would refuse a three-year deal with Torino without having any other offer on the table. He surprised everyone with that decision.”

“I think in the end he could have left on better terms, similarly to Dries Mertens,” he added.

“He’s an important player, a player who’s hungry to win. Whoever gets him makes a great deal.”
