Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed recent rumors that Roma may have considered sacking Jose Mourinho after the 4-1 defeat to Genoa.
The Italian journalist of Sky Sport was asked about Corriere dello Sport’s story which claimed Mourinho’s future at the club was at serious risk over a week ago.
“The relationship between Mourinho and the owners is normal,” Di Marzio said on his broadcast. “The ownership did consider replacing him after the defeat in Genoa.”
“Ultimately, they didn’t pursue it because those initial thoughts partly due to lack of alternatives. There weren’t any free coaches on the market capable of planning something for the future, because I don’t think [Antonio] Conte wants to enter mid-season. The 4-1 defeat left a heavy mark on the owners’ minds.”
