Roma defender Gianluca Mancini admitted it will take awhile for the sting of missing out on the 2022 World Cup with Italy to go away.
The Azzurri were left stunned thanks to an injury time winner scored by North Macedonia, which costs them their second consecutive World Cup.
“The bitterness is still there and will remain for awhile,” he told DAZN.
“But this is a part of sport and a part of football—there’s a possibility for huge disappointments. However, my mind has now shifted back to Roma and winning this match and finishing the season as best we can.”
The Italian was also asked about his rumored contract renewal with the club, which is said to be nearly a done deal.
“I’ve always said my desire is to become a symbol of this club. It’s a pleasure playing for Roma and fighting for the shirt. So again, this is my desire.”
