Roma defender and vice-captain Gianluca Mancini criticized his side’s defensive display following the loss to Verona.
After tonight’s 2-1 defeat at the Stadio Bentegodi, Mancini featured in a rare post-match presser to answer questions from the media.
“We changed some things, we had two good games in terms of gameplan but what matters is finishing the game with good results.”
“We are lacking defensive solidity and the defensive attention we had until the end of last year’s campaign. We conceded four shots in two games and conceded four goals. We mustn’t think it’s just bad luck – it’s also a result of our mistakes, because if you leave clear chances to your opponents in Serie A, they score.”
“When you’re down 2-0 in this league it’s difficult to come back. Despite this, we have shown spirit, the desire to win is there, there have been opportunities for us to score and win, plenty of posts and crossbars too but they don’t count. The result is 2-1 for them and that’s it.”
“We must do something because to have Roma sitting with only one point is unacceptable,” he added.
“Ibanez? He was a player you all loved to criticize at every turn. Now he’s gone and we must simply move on.”
