Roma defender Gianluca Mancini revealed Jose Mourinho’s pep talk to prepare the Giallorossi to face Inter in last night’s winning effort. Mourinho was not able to attend the match in-person due to his suspension, but the Special One’s words before the game were enough to motivate his players to give their all.

“The coach emphasized a lot the aspect of playing in front of hostile crowds in our recent work-outs,” Mancini told the club after the final whistle.

“He would tell us that in order to win these games away from home, we should always walk onto the pitch with character and determination, with the awareness that at the start of the game we’re on the same level of the opponent, but as the minutes go by we ultimately become the better team.”

“After scoring the equalizer we knew we could do it, we knew we could win,” Mancini added. “We suffered, but that’s because there are no easy games. This has to be a further boost to our confidence, to our awareness that we can play an important part this season.”

“Throughout the entire game, we’d tell ourselves ‘We’re the better team,’ because that’s how we felt. And we showed it by winning a very important match.”
