Roma defender Gianluca Mancini was showered with praise by Giallorossi boss Jose Mourinho after last night’s victory.

The Italian centreback scored Roma’s opening goal and is said to have battled with a muscle injury throughout the remainder of the match, refusing to come off and playing on painkillers.

In his post-match media appearances, Mourinho singled out Mancini’s performance as an example of the team’s sense of sacrifice.

“I got scared for Mancini when he told us earlier on in the first half that he was in pain and struggling,” Mourinho told Roma TV. “But as always, Mancio was able to pull through and go beyond his physical limits.”

“Mancini will play even on one leg, I knew that, so I told him to stay on,” added the Special One.
