Roma defender Gianluca Mancini turned out to be one of the protagonists of tonight’s crucial win vs Atalanta. The 26-year-old, along with Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla, helped the team maintain a clean sheet and extend Roma’s undefeated streak.

The centre-back spoke to DAZN following the final whistle and jokingly referred to manager Jose Mourinho.

“He complimented me because I didn’t get a yellow card this time around. It hadn’t happened in a long time. Every foul I made resulted in a yellow.”

“After the game he said job well done and told us he wouldn’t be coming back on the touchline since we got six points without him there.”

When asked what ultimately made the difference against Gasperini’s men, Mancini replied “Every single one of us worked much harder than usual. These three points were crucial in order to stay in the race for top four.”

“The key to this game was to stay together, stay tight, don’t let Atalanta stretch us too wide. We did well.”

“This must be our attitude going forward, there’s not many games left. If we play with this kind of attitude there’s no game we can’t win.”

“Tammy is an important player for us. Today he created a lot and held his own up front.”

“We just raise our eyes and find him waiting for the ball. He is fast, technical. He is an important player, as everyone is. Today everyone gave everything to win this match.”
