Gianluca Mancini remains optimistic ahead of Feyenoord return leg

Andy Mattioli

Defender Gianluca Mancini did not let tonight’s defeat get in the way of his confidence in Roma advancing to the next round.

The Italian centreback and team vice-captain spoke to Sky Sport after the match with Feyenoord and shared his thoughts ahead of the return leg next week.

“The missed penalty? You must have the courage and guts to take a penalty in a game of this caliber, and Lorenzo stepped up. Today he hit the post but he scored many penalties in the past. Penalties are always hit or miss.”

“Apart from that, the match was very close, apart from the first 12 minutes of the second half where they had more momentum and scored. We are serene, united, and calm for Sunday’s game and then Thursday to turn the situation around at the Olimpico.”

“We’ve had matches where we attacked right away and we did it again today. When you go behind you have to be aggressive and try to turn the tables.”
