Gini Wijnaldum talks about return in Lecce draw: “I’m very happy.”

Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum was finally able to make his highly anticipated return to the pitch five months after suffering a fractured leg.

The player spoke about tonight’s performance in a 1-1 draw with Lecce and his condition going forward.

“I am very happy, I already was when I resumed training with the team. I felt like a player again and now I’m even happier than I was,” he told Sky Sport at full-time.

“I’m feeling well, I’m not yet at the optimal level but it’s normal. It will take some time to get back to my levels but I’m on the right track, I just have to think about working hard every day,” he continued.

“I played only a few minutes in Serie A but the feeling is that it’s a very technical football and very tactical teams. It’s difficult to score because all the teams are very organised. At the end of the season I hope to be able to give a more detailed opinion because playing and watching are different things,” he concluded.
