Despite evaluations made by the club’s medical staff earlier in the night suggested an imminent surgery on Gini Wijnaldum’s fractured tibia, the decision has been postponed and will be reassessed within the next few days.
According to Il Tempo, the Friedkins have asked their trusted medical professional, Dr. Georg Ahlbaumer from St. Moriz clinic in Switzerland, to check on Wijnaldum’s compound fracture.
Ahlbaumer was responsible for carrying out surgery on Ebrima Darboe’s torn ACL earlier in July.
The Italian newspaper claims that Ahlbaumer will decide within the next 48-72 hours whether to perform surgery or continue with more conservative recovery method. Nonetheless, Wijnaldum is looking at a timeline of 3-4 months before being able to step on the pitch again.
