Gonzalo Villar returns after COVID battle

Roma midfielder Gonzalo Villar

After nearly two weeks, Roma midfielder Gonzalo Villar has finally tested negative for COVID-19 and is set to return the pitch.

Earlier this afternoon, the Spaniard announced on Instagram that he tested negative for the virus following his 20 November diagnosis.

“My swab tested negative, finally on my way to Trigoria with the team,” he wrote. “Goodbye, COVID!”

Villar’s return provides manager José Mourinho with a much-needed piece of positive news following a series of injuries and suspensions.

The Giallorossi find themselves in an emergency situation ahead of their showdown against Inter tomorrow evening at the Stadio Olimpico.

The capital club will be without Tammy Abraham, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Rick Karsdorp, Stephen El Shaarawy, Leonardo Spinazzola, and Felix Afena-Gyan.
