Houssem Aouar details decision to join Roma, pairing with Pellegrini and more

Roma midfielder Houssem Aouar was recently asked about his decision to join the capital club as a free agent.

The Algerian international discussed working with Mourinho and the possibility of playing alongside Lorenzo Pellegrini in a recent interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“Mourinho played a major role in my decision to come here: the opportunity to be coached by a phenomenon is something I couldn’t pass up on,” said Aouar.

“And even Tiago Pinto played his part because he showed he really wanted me. But let me be honest to the end: when you work for Roma it’s easier to convince someone to join you. Roma is the real difference-maker.”

“Why should I compete with Pellegrini? I’ve always thought that good players can and should play together. Lorenzo is one of these, it will be natural for us to play together.”

“If the coach needs me as playmaker, I can do it. I’ve been doing it for two years. In a two-man midfield there is always a player of physical ability and one of technical quality.”

“The AFCON? This is a delicate matter. I’m proud to represent Algeria. And I’m sure that Roma, who have a competitive squad, will be able to play without me for a few weeks.”
