Algerian midfielder Houssem Aouar began his Roman adventure earlier this week.
The ex-Lyon player was among the team members to show up for the first day of preseason training on Monday morning and has been consistently involved in all team activities at Trigoria so far.
According to Il Messaggero, Jose Mourinho is working with Aouar on a number of tasks and duties on the pitch including playing deeper alongside Nemanja Matic and more far up the pitch, similarly to Paulo Dybala.
The Italian newspaper claims that this will be Aouar’s primary role: to serve as Swiss Army knife depending on the situation that arises thanks to his versatile skillset. He will most likely not be a guaranteed starter, but his impact will be felt coming off the bench across competitions.
Aouar can both play in front of the defense and behind the striker. He is expected to make his first starting appearance for the club on the opening Serie A matchday with Salernitana due to the suspensions of Lorenzo Pellegrini and Paulo Dybala.
