Igor Zaniolo, the father of Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo, spoke today to Centro Suono Sport about the future of his son. These are his words:
The best role for Zaniolo?
I think he should play on the left because that’s his preferred foot as a mezz’ala in a midfield three. Several managers consider him as such, especially Mancini. In Rome, he adapted to different roles under Di Francesco and Ranieri out of necessity. There’s an important physical aspect that he’s learning when it comes to playing on the wing.
How is Nicolò experiencing this somewhat complicated pperiod?
He’s calm, he does not feel the weight of criticism. It is a particular moment, as happens to all players and we’ll wait for the storm to pass. Nobody handed him anything. He’s the one who scored twice against Porto and scored important goals in the league.
Do you feel like saying something to the Roma supporters?
Trust the club because it can’t go worse than last year. The goal is to return to the Champions League. Everyone must be united to achieve results. Rome isn’t an easy place, but the team will need to be supported.
Will Zaniolo remain?
He has a four-year contract, I see no reason to think he is leaving. Then if there are other problems at the club, it doesn’t depend on him. He has a 4-year contract and I see no reason to change. At the moment, we still don’t know who to talk to, the sporting director has not yet been formalised, surely we’ll be the first to be called once the organisational chart is situated.
